Golden milk


Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk or dairy-free milk

  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric powder

  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger or grated fresh ginger root

  • Pinch of freshly ground black pepper

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick

  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom

  • Sweetener of choice, such as jaggery or honey, to taste (optional)


  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together all of the ingredients.

  2. Just before the milk starts to boil (you will see a few bubbles), reduce the heat to low.

  3. Cook the mixture, occasionally stirring, for 10 minutes.

  4. Pour the golden milk through a fine-mesh strainer into a heat-safe mug and serve hot. Reheat leftover golden milk on the stovetop over low heat.
